Our Services
Wellness Exams
Highland Animal Hospital provides a wide range of preventative care services to help your pet live a longer, healthier life. This helps to increase the odds of detecting problems before they become severe and costly.
Prior to a wellness exam, please print and complete the document below:
Regular wellness examinations are important because many dogs and cats don’t show pain the way humans do. They also might not present symptoms of illness until they are rather advanced. We recommend a wellness exam for your pet on a yearly basis.
When your pet sees their veterinarian, you’ll discuss your pets lifestyle and daily habits. We offer yearly screening for Heartworm and Lyme Disease and Wellness bloodwork-all done in our in-house laboratory allowing for faster results. Medications such as flea, tick, and heartworm prevention are important and will be discussed as to find which medication works best for the lifestyle of you and your pet. It is recommended to bring a fecal sample to your pet’s yearly exam to screen for parasites. This is also your time to discuss with your vet any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pet.

Vaccinations
Vaccines are an integral part of your pet’s overall health. Many serious diseases in dogs and cats can be prevented by vaccination. Pets are subject to encounter viruses even if they are kept indoors. Vaccinations are a cost effective method of prevention against expensive treatments and other outcomes.
Vaccinations Offered
Kittens and puppies should receive their first vaccinations between 6-8 weeks of age.
Cats
FVRCP
Rabies
Feline Leukemia
(FeLV)
Dogs
Distemper Parvo (DA2PP)
Rabies
Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Lyme
Leptospirosis
- The FVRCP and DA2PP vaccinations are a series that
should be given every three to four weeks, with the last
one being given when your pet is 16 weeks or older. - Your pet’s first Rabies vaccination is good for one year. After the first year, they are generally vaccinated every three years.
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough) is recommended for any dog that would be in close proximity to a potentially infected dog such as kennels, grooming salons, dog parks or canine social events.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial disease spread through ticks and Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease spread through the urine of wildlife. It is a 2-part series and requires an annual booster.

Microchipping
Millions of pets get lost every year, but if your pet has no form of identification, there’s not much anyone can do. Microchipping is a great way to help reunite lost pets with their owners. A microchip contains a personal, one-of-a-kind identification number that can help bring your pet home.
The number contains information about the owner and pet. Most vets and shelters have scanners that can detect and read the chips so owners can be contacted.

Dentistry
Dental care for pets is just as important as it is for humans. Pets can’t take care of their own teeth, so it’s up to their owners to maintain their oral health. During their yearly wellness exam, we’ll examine the teeth and gums to check for any early signs of gum disease or deterioration and tartar buildup. We also offer appointments for full dental exams and cleanings.
- Yellow, discolored teeth
- Bad breath
- Trouble eating or drinking
- Excessive drooling
- Loose teeth

Ultrasound
We have added a new state-of-the-art ultrasound machine. Ultrasound is an affordable, non-invasive procedure that allows us to look at internal organs with no side effects and often allows us to detect issues that may not be seen with a radiograph (x-ray). It can be used to detect pregnancy, organ enlargement, a tumor/mass, and visualization of bladder among other uses.
